The Recorded History of Poker Chips

[ English ]

Casino chips have been manufactured from a varied selection of materials in an almost infinite variety of styles since the birth of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most commonly seen materials employed at present in the creation of new poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the group, have been made in America since the late 19th century.

Back in the 1800s, poker enthusiasts appear to be using any tiny object with value you can imagine. Early poker players sometimes used rough gold pieces as well as chips – mainly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip designs started to play a greater prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips were given up to chips with slits to hold them neatly piled up together.

There is little debate that poker has increased steadily in universal appeal since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive advancement of net gambling and specialty TV shows, public appeal in poker has feed the fire faster than ever before. Many individuals are first introduced to poker by television showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and many will bet on their 1st hands online. Despite net poker’s rise, nothing replaces the feeling of shuffling heavy poker chips in your hand, tossing chips into the middle of a poker table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
