Hiding Tells

Do you ever get that itch? The itch to bet, to head to the nearest gambling house, to locate a superior stakes casino game of Texas holdem, to sit at a Twenty-one table for hours on end. I love that itch. And I like to scratch it.

I also love to watch individuals bet. No 2 poker faces seem identical. When I bet I like to think I put on a poker face that is impassable. But I know I’ve particular actions. For 1, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I play poker or Twenty-one. And then I smoke. Except I smoke whether I am winning or losing, no matter if I have a very good hand or bad.

I once wagered in the weekly poker game. The casino game was generally five card draw. There was a person who bet with us each week who often wore a hat. When he was given a beneficial hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and betting with his hat. Needless to say, he in no way won.

The very best poker player I ever saw was a guy who created much more actions and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Constantly an costly suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was constantly brushing his pants or rubbings his hands or putting his chips in neat little piles.

I use to examine him for long periods of time. I would tried to see if I could notice his tell. Selecting lint off his vest- did this imply he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a excellent hand?

Years later I bumped into him within a bar in Chi town and we had a beverage. I asked him if he had been aware of all those motions he produced or if they were subconscious. He informed me that every little thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is generally checking out everybody else’s poker face. They are attempting to spot the the tell.

So his system was to provide them lots to feel about. His reasoning was if they had been pondering about him choosing a piece of fuzz off his coat and what it meant they positive were not pondering about their cards.

His process was diversion. And it worked for him. In no way give up a technique that functions for you.
