Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
