Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked participating in different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he played countless hours and lost most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus even more on the game.

The actual improvement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would frequently challenge one another. Howard had access into a few of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker arena ever. Howard relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
