Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
