Pai Gow uses 53 cards; the customary 52-card basic deck and a single joker. The player is dealt 7 cards faces showing and the house is dealt 7 cards faces hidden.
A five card hand and a 2 card hand have to be put together from the 7 cards dealt, the 5 card hand has to be better than the two card hand. To win, a player needs both of his hand totals to be better than the houses.
